Developer Alec Garcia did a Google Chrome extension that, as you'd expect, you can view and download Stories from the Web browser. Want to save horrible pictures of everybody for posterity, or just for Insta-creep from your laptop? Well, now you can.

Garcia describes the technical process of how he was able to build the extension on Medium. It's not really a hack - he reverse engineered the Instagram API, which allows third party applications to see stories with a little work
The expansion also reveals a very real safety issue for Instagram :. The actual photos and video stories are not deleted Instagram servers after 24 hours; the application is simply the most visible. But if you kept URL of a photo, you can share it seemingly forever.
This seems to be the kind of Instagram vulnerability will try to patch as we speak, so if you want to collect dirt on your frenemies better act fast.
