Lenovo IdeaCentre Y900 Review Features & Components

By Gadget News | At 1:09 AM | Label : , , , | 0 Comments
Lenovo IdeaCentre Y900 Review Features & Components. On the IdeaCentre Y900’s back panel, you’ll find a satisfactory assortment of ports for most usage cases we could think of for a midrange gaming desktop. At the top are two USB 2.0 ports and a legacy PS/2, in case you feel like breaking out that old IBM Model M mechanical keyboard. Further down is a cluster of four USB 3.0 ports, plus an Ethernet jack and the audio connectors, which include a S/PDIF optical.
You’ll notice that the HDMI, VGA, and DVI-D ports on the motherboard are blocked off by rubber stoppers, as the motherboard’s graphic outputs are disabled; instead, you'd use the GeForce GTX 970’s full-size HDMI, DVI-D, or three DisplayPort connectors to connect any monitors.
Lenovo IdeaCentre Y900 (Ports)
There’s more connectivity on the front of the IdeaCentre Y900's chassis. Angled along the top, you’ll find four USB 3.0 ports, the seven-format flash-memory-card reader, and separate headphone and microphone jacks. The metal power button is on top of the chassis, softly illuminated in white when the system is powered on. To open the optical drive, you'll press the shiny black strip below the right side of the upper 5.25-inch bay.
That's it for the wired stuff. If you want to pursue wireless connectivity, the IdeaCentre Y900 includes built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi wireless—that isn't necessarily common in desktops, so kudos to Lenovo for that—as well as integrated Bluetooth.

Bundled Peripherals

Lenovo includes a keyboard and mouse with the IdeaCentre Y900. Although we normally don't give much weight to the included peripherals on a desktop, these deserve special mention.
The keyboard is Lenovo’s snazzy new Y Gaming Mechanical Keyboard, which goes for $139.99 by itself. It has an outstanding click-clack feel thanks to its mechanical, red-backlit switches. All of the keys, including the macros, are backlit, with five brightness levels.
Lenovo IdeaCentre Y900 (Lenovo Y Gaming Mechanical Keyboard)
The keys have a matte finish, with the exception of the aggressively textured spacebar. At the upper right you’ll find media playback and volume-control buttons. The gaming macro keys on the far left side have three functions each, in conjunction with the M1 to M3 keys at the upper left, for 18 total macros you can trigger directly. The backlighting controls are also located at the upper left, along with the Windows-key disable button. You can even individually turn on and off the backlighting for the WASD cluster, should you desire.
Lenovo IdeaCentre Y900 (Lenovo Y Gaming Mechanical Keyboard WASD)
Conveniently, along the keyboard’s right edge are a USB pass-through port and two audio jacks, meaning you don’t need to have your headset cables snaking all the way down to the tower. The keyboard also includes a detachable palm-rest portion. The only awkward part about this keyboard is that it has two USB connectors – one for the keyboard, and one for the USB and audio connections. But that's the norm for any keyboard with a USB pass-through port aboard.
The Lenovo Y Gaming Precision Mouse is also included with the IdeaCentre Y900. It retails for $69.99 by itself. Lenovo says the specialized switches under its main buttons are good for 20 million clicks. Indeed, the clicks have a solid feel, and we also liked the rubberized mouse wheel.
Lenovo IdeaCentre Y900 (Lenovo Y Gaming Mouse)
There are a total of nine programmable buttons via the included software, and the resolution/dpi is switchable on the fly. Like some higher-end gaming mice on the market, this mouse has removable weight cartridges, accessible by turning a circular cover on the mouse’s underside…
Lenovo IdeaCentre Y900 (Lenovo Y Gaming Mouse Underside)
We found the mouse fit our hands well, though we actually preferred the more compact shape of the less expensive mouse included with the IdeaCentre Y700. This is a big mouse, especially in length; if you have small hands, it may feel a bit overwhelming. The rubberized surfaces and textured patterns on the back edges help keep your hand secure during quick movements. It’s only available in a right-handed design.

Components

As we mentioned earlier on, our IdeaCentre Y900 is a Best Buy-specific version (model Y900 34ISZ 900D) that retailed for $1,599 at this writing. This is but one configuration of the Y900; others are available on Lenovo.com.
As configured, our IdeaCentre Y900’s crown jewel was its “Skylake” Core i7-6700K processor, the fastest quad-core offered by Intel. It runs at a scorching 4GHz, with Turbo Boost support for speeds up to 4.2GHz. The chip has a thermal-design-power (TDP) rating of 91 watts, as opposed to the 65 watts of the standard Core i7-6700, which runs at “only” 3.4GHz, with a Turbo Boost to 4GHz. The “K” indicates the i7-6700K has unlocked multipliers, though we found no overclocking support in the IdeaCentre Y900’s BIOS. It probably wouldn’t be a good idea anyway, as the standard air CPU cooler likely wouldn’t have much, if any, cooling overhead. That’s actually one of the IdeaCentre Y900’s major downsides; an entry-level liquid-cooling setup would have been much preferred.
Lenovo IdeaCentre Y900 (Right Panel)
Our review unit came with 8GB of RAM (in the form of two 4GB modules), which is about half as much as we’d like to see in a desktop with this caliber of components. The price difference between 8GB and 16GB in the aftermarket was about $50 at the time of writing. That said, 8GB is sufficient for most games and moderate multitasking. As previously mentioned, the IdeaCentre Y900 is easy enough to upgrade with more memory via its four DIMM slots. Two DIMM slots are free in this model, so you can purchase a two-DIMM kit and add it to the already-installed 8GB. The IdeaCentre Y900 officially supports up to 32GB, and is sold as such, but we suspect it may work with up to 64GB, the maximum supported by Intel’s quad-core “Skylake” processors.
The 120GB SSD in our review unit is a Lenovo-specific variant by Samsung. It wasn’t the speediest, but it is certainly far more responsive than a regular hard drive. The IdeaCentre Y900 we tested also included a secondary 2TB drive for mass-data storage, and you’ll likely have to use it judiciously, as the 120GB SSD will fill up quickly. It's worth noting that the models on Lenovo.com all include 256GB SSDs as standard equipment, a more realistic baseline boot-drive capacity, if you ask us, for a gaming tower. Game installs munch up the gigs fast.
The GeForce GTX 970 4GB graphics card in our review unit has plenty of power to run modern games at a 1080p or 1440p resolution. As we’ll see in the next section, its performance is typically at least 50 percent higher than what we saw from the GeForce GTX 960$189.99 at Amazon, which is standard fare in the IdeaCentre Y700. The Y900 is also available in configurations from Lenovo with an even more powerful 4GB GeForce GTX 980$715.00 at Amazon card, though that’s overkill if all you’re doing is 1080p gaming on one screen.
Lenovo IdeaCentre Y900 (Video Card)
To our disappointment, the IdeaCentre Y900 isn’t available in customizable configurations. There’s a shell configuration available on Lenovo.com for $899.99 with no graphics card, 4GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD, and no secondary hard drive. It also doesn’t include the mechanical keyboard or laser mouse of our review unit. It might be the way to go if you want to add your own graphics card, upgrade the RAM yourself, and expand the storage. But otherwise, you have to order off the fixed menu.
We had no heat-related issues while testing the IdeaCentre Y900. We noticed its CPU cooler tended to kick into high gear while gaming and running CPU-intensive applications, and it wasn’t all that quiet. The 120mm case fans are also louder than expected, but at idle and during general usage, we were hardly able to hear them.
Software-wise, the IdeaCentre Y900 is mostly free of bloatware. There’s a McAfee trial and a couple of Lenovo apps, but it’s otherwise clean.

Lenovo IdeaPad S12 Review

By Gadget News | At 12:55 PM | Label : | 0 Comments
Lenovo IdeaPad S12 Review |
The Lenovo IdeaPad S12 features a 12-inch screen and is one of the largest netbooks on the market. The S12 comes pre-loaded with Windows XP, has a full keyboard, and includes a six-cell battery for five hours of run time. - Read on to see how it fared in our testing

* Intel Atom N270 (1.60GHz)
* Windows XP Home Edition
* Intel GMA 950 integrated graphics
* 1GB RAM
* widescreen 12.1-inch (1280x800) with LED backlight
* 160GB 5400RPM hard drive (Hitachi HTS543216L9A)
* battery 6 cells Li -ion (11.1V, 52Wh)
* Broadcom 802.11b / g wireless
* limited one-year warranty
* White color (also available in black)
* Dimensions: 11.5 x 8.5 x 0.9 to 1.4 inches (L xpx H)
* Weight: 3.42 lb from w / 6-cell battery

As configured, our S12 is currently priced at $ 499. The base model starts at $ 449 with a 1.3GHz VIA Nano processor.

Build and Design
Like all netbooks have nearly identical specifications, manufacturers need to consider the design and build quality to differentiate. Lenovo IdeaPad S12 is a docile machine and easy to search for a not a square edge in sight. second generation of the company netbooks feature rounded edges and a slimmer chassis. The S12 looks well built; all parts fit together perfectly.

The back cover has a design "fashion" with hundreds of little circles dotting the lid. The S12 would be home in a Target store because I think all these little circles resemble the bullseye company logo. In addition, the majority of people that I show he thought it was the machine of a young girl, probably because he is white and has that circle design on the lid. Your mileage may vary - I suggest guys go with the black version

The S12 is constructed of ABS plastic through and through .. It looks and feels sturdy and is not fragile at all. The only part of the laptop which could be more solid is the battery, which slightly oscillates. There is little flexible anywhere on the machine, with the exception of what is the cover; ripples show on the screen when only mild pressure is put on the back of the screen. This should be a non-issue as long as the machine is not thrown around. The hinges that hold the display on are very strong as well. A point of interest about the lid is that it tilts backwards about 20 degrees from vertical; given the light of this machine, it will likely be used in a variety of situations and therefore should probably tilt another 10-20 degrees or more.

The whole base of the laptop has a matte finish, while the lid is glossy plastic front and back. The glossy plastic is surprisingly durable; I did not use a sleeve to protect the S12 in my bag during the week I had it and there were no scratches at the end of the review period.

The glossy screen attracts dust and fingerprints easily, so keep a microfiber cloth handy. Regarding cleanliness goes, the white plastic stayed clean during the time that I had; only time will tell how long-term rates. Hopefully the plastic is not too absorbent and will not pick up stains and discolorations. The black S12 is better at hiding everyday wear.

Compared to the Dell Inspiron Mini 12, a direct competitor to the Lenovo S12, the S12 is slightly smaller (but more about a tenth of an inch thick). The S12 feels deceptively heavy in the hands depending on how you pick it up (rear, front, and so on). The stick-out 6-cell battery is the main reason S12 feels heavy.

Overall, the S12 has excellent fit and finish with an accommodating design.

screen IdeaPad S12 and Speakers

screen and speakers
The S12 features a wide screen 12 inch (16:10) with a 1280x800 resolution and LED backlighting. Contrast and brightness are excellent; the display lighting LED (instead of traditional CCFL lighting used in most notebooks) make for a very homogeneous brightness distribution, with only a hint of bleed at the bottom. There are ten brightness levels; I found level 7 or 8/10 to be the sweet spot, but dimming the screen to 4 or 5/10 are perfectly usable and I extend the battery life. The higher brightness level is almost too bright. Viewing angles are average at best - above the photo quickly washed, and below it darkens. angles Side by side are better but it is noticeable color change.

Unfortunately, the coating of the glossy screen means a lot of reflections, so using this machine outside or areas with lots of lighting sources could get annoying.

The 1280x800 screen resolution is excellent for a netbook; most have 1024x600 or less. The display also has a 16:10 ratio, which is unusual since most manufacturers are turning to 16: 9 displays. The higher resolution makes the S12 feel more like a full computer than other netbooks with lower resolutions.

There are two speakers located under the palm rests on the S12. These are essentially stereotypical notebook speakers -. They get loud enough to hear sounds and are reasonably clear but for situations where audio matters, such as movies and music, will make use of the headphone jack

Speaking of the headphone jack, it is unfortunate that some background noise is present. It is easily embedded with audio and most people probably will not even notice, but an audiophile like myself, it is disappointing.

Keyboard and Touchpad
Keyboard The IdeaPad S12 is, in a word, superb; it is full-size and requires no adjusting from a standard notebook keyboard. There is no flex and key travel is right. The keyboard feels high quality and makes typing accuracy; each key is anchored securely and does not wobble at all. It has excellent tactile feedback and enough resistance that you can rest your hands on the keyboard in typing position without pressing keys accidentally. Lenovo designers made good use of keyboard real estate - I am pleased to see the PrintScreen key is its own key and not mapped as a secondary function (as in, need to press the [Fn] in conjunction with the corresponding key to use ), and the Page Up and Page Down keys are near the arrow keys. The Home and End keys are secondary function keys, but looking at the space the designers had to deal with, it was clearly not an option for separate as well.

Overall, this is one of the best keyboards netbook / notebook I used a long time.

The touchpad has its ups and downs. While tracking is easy and it is reasonably accurate, it is a little too small - I found myself short pieces often. If it measured half a centimeter more in diameter would be perfect. The touchpad buttons provide good feedback and make an audible but not annoying click when depressed. The buttons are easy to find by feel and other than wishing they were slightly larger, I have no complaints about them

Ports and Features
The IdeaPad S12 has a limited selection port -. We'll take a picture round. Right side: ExpressCard / 34 slot, headphone and microphone jacks, USB, VGA, 10/100 Ethernet, Kensington under

lock before: Stereo Speakers

Back: Battery

the S12 has the essentials; considering this netbook is designed to do, the port selection is difficult to complain.

Lenovo IdeaPad U350 Review

By Gadget News | At 9:50 PM | Label : | 0 Comments
Lenovo IdeaPad U350 Review |
Lenovo is best known for its excellent ThinkPad notebook business, but also offers entry-level machine through its 3000 series range IdeaPad balance the two, with the U350 offering a combination of mobility, ease of use and features of the company.

Where other Lenovo laptops use stark but functional black designs, a more favorable consumer design is used here. The textured plastic cover and faux brushed aluminum palm rest provides a look that will suit the home or office, and the build quality is excellent throughout.

The slim chassis weighs 1.7 kg, which makes this ultraportable ideal for frequent travel use. is mixed. The keyboard is large and spacious and all keys respond accurately, but the board flexes and rattles slightly when typing. The model we saw was a pre-production build, however, if one can hope to be corrected on final samples.

The large touchpad is much more usable. It also supports multi-touch gesture control, allowing you to move your fingers in a circle on the button to scroll through documents, or pinch your fingers to zoom in on images. It's a small touch, but works very well.

The 13.3-inch screen is excellent. Brightness, color and contrast are outstanding, offering crisp and vibrant images. The widescreen aspect ratio is ideal for viewing spreadsheets and an ambient light sensor automatically adjusts the brightness according to your environment.

low power components are used to provide optimal performance within the small chassis. The low voltage Intel processor and 3072MB of memory provide enough power for most home and office tasks, but not the best configuration for frequent multitasking.

Ample storage is provided by hard disk and 320GB disk is protected against shocks, to avoid damage to your data if you drop the laptop. Unfortunately there is not

Wi-Fi 802.11n and Gigabit Ethernet provide an integrated broadband network in optical drive for use on CD / DVD, but a 3-in-1 card reader allows the access to flash memory cards. . The integrated camera also supports VeriFace login software, whereby it remembers your facial features, and allows you to log on to Windows by simply looking into the camera.

Overall, the IdeaPad U350 is a comfortable balance between high-end ThinkPad and Lenovo 3000 entry level ranges. It may not be the best ultraportable we've seen, but it is nevertheless a highly usable machine and is sure to meet small to medium business use.

Lenovo ThinkPad X301 now available with spinning hard disk 1.8 inches

By Gadget News | At 2:32 PM | Label : | 0 Comments
Lenovo ThinkPad X301 now available with spinning hard disk 1.8 inches |

Lenovo
s flagship ThinkPad X301 laptop can now be found in some configurations with a 1.8-inch magnetic hard disk rather than solid state drives fast and expensive, once included exclusively.

Unfortunately, the new drives are not available on Lenovo.com as part of a build-it-yourself configuration, again. Instead, you are limited to one of two pre-built configurations available from resellers:

* Model 2776-H1U: SU9400 1.4GHz CPU, 2GB DDR3 , Webcam, 120GB 5400rpm, DVDRW, Intel 5100 WiFi, expandable WWAN, 2GB Turbo Memory, Bluetooth, fingerprint reader, 6-cell battery, Vista Business 32 - 1700-1800 street price ~ $
* model 2776-32U: SU9600 1.6GHz CPU, 2GB DDR3, Webcam, 250GB 5400rpm, DVDRW, Intel 5100 WiFi, expandable WWAN, Bluetooth, fingerprint reader, 6-cell battery, XP Professional - the street price - ~ $ 1700

Considering that you can not get the ThinkPad X301 in the $ 1600 range, without DVDRW and other goodies on Lenovo.com with coupons, it's actually not a bad deal. The magnetic hard disk allows you to clearly save a chunk of change here. In fact, if you look for the almost identical model 2776-33U, which adds a 64GB SSD on 2776-32U listed above, it adds an average $ 200-300 in the price tag. You should always make the comparison price in depth to find the model that best fits your needs, but the potential is there to save money.

More background
lenovo_thinkpad_t400s_upgrade_ssd-toshiba When the ThinkPad X300 launched, it has been criticized for its high price, which was largely driven by the SSD so expensive. The drive itself cost over $ 700, which is a very large part of the cost of any laptop, as you could get a pretty good machine equipped so far. Asked about offering a 1.8-inch HDD to reduce the starting cost down, Lenovo said it had investigated this route, but that the performance of these drives was just not up to par for such a high Machine range. Indeed, the storage unit of a system is one of the biggest bottlenecks in modern computer.

Since the ThinkPad X300 launched, SSD prices have dropped significantly bringing the X301 in the sub-range in price from $ 2,000. However, hard drive technology has also advanced, not only are 1.8 inch drives faster, but they have a greater capacity also. Hopefully Lenovo will begin offering the 1.8-inch HDD for the X301 on Lenovo.com, so we can really see what kind of value they can hunt ThinkPad lighthouse.

Lenovo ThinkPad T400s Multi-Touch Notebook Review

By Gadget News | At 11:19 AM | Label : | 0 Comments
Lenovo ThinkPad T400s Multi-Touch Notebook Review |
If you have not noticed, Lenovo has a thing for machines reintroduction with a tweak here and there and maybe a hint of new features. The IdeaPad S10-2 is a great example of that, as the new party, multi-touch ThinkPad T400s. Frankly, the ThinkPad T400s that emerged in June was not quite different from the original ThinkPad T400. The T400s offered a slimmer profile, a tweaked keyboard, a few new updates internal hardware upgrades and optional WAN connectivity. The new T400s, which has Windows 7 and multi-touch screen, a major feature added :. Button

But really, the touch input is adding to an already pretty decent laptop to make you think twice about buying a Lenovo? Or better yet, could he convince the owners of existing T400 and T400s to upgrade? In the coming pages, we'll take a look at how think machine performs with a new operating system. Unlike the original T400s that we reviewed earlier in the summer, our multi-touch T400s comes with Windows 7 Professional, while the previously T400s comes with a variety of options Vista.

Of course, those who are interested in acquiring multi touch will pay for the privilege. The original T400s started only $ 1599. The Multi-Touch T400s starts at $ 1.999. That's a premium of $ 400 just for the fancy display, and if you feel like calculating with a 2.53GHz processor and an improved SSD, be prepared to pay more. There is no doubt that this machine could end up pushing $ 3000 before all was said and done, what seems simply outrageous whatever the tip all the multi-touch aspect is. That said, when you consider that Apple gets to a Macbook Pro with fewer features than that, maybe it is not so exorbitant?

Lenovo Ideapad U150 Review

By Gadget News | At 11:15 AM | Label : | 0 Comments
Lenovo Ideapad U150 Review |
A new Lenovo Ideapad has been spotted, the U150. This laptop has: a 11.6-inch screen, an Intel Core 2 Duo ULV CPU, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and integrated Intel GMA X4500 graphics. According to reports, this laptop is only 3 pounds light and is just 0.5 inches thin. It will launch later this year, probably with Windows 7 onboard.

It looks like low power thin and light notebooks 11 to 13 inch laptops might be the new netbooks. I'm on the fence about whether these will completely replace netbooks in the coming years, but PC vendors are certainly starting to grow thin and light as they are the new hot thing ... you know, like netbooks were last year.

the last machine to make the scene is the Lenovo IdeaPad U150, which features a 11.6-inch screen, a dual core processor core 2 Duo ULV Intel, 2GB RAM, 250GB hard drive, and Intel GMA X4500 graphics.

The laptop weighs less than 3 pounds and measures to a half-inch thick at its thinnest point. Some pictures to PC Watch snagged CEATAC, the U150 also has a texture looking a bit odd on the frame covering the lid and palm rest area. You can find more pictures and a price (about $ 770) to Xmit.cc.

3 New fast laptop from Lenovo with Windows 7 operating system |
Lenovo released a new laptop products that use .Products Windows 7 operating system from Lenovo is a product that has fast performance.As quoted in Infoworld Lenovo worked with Microsoft in the creation of new laptops, a laptop that is fast with the windows 7 product operation is: Y550P IdeaPad, IdeaPad U150 and IdeaPad U550

IdeaPad Y550P (from $ 1399)

the Y550P is power user Lenovo consumer model. Take an Intel Core i7 processor; add a 1GB nVidia GT M240 GPU, a 500GB hard drive and a 15.6-inch panel, 1366 x 768 pixels - and you have a package that could offer fairly decent performance. If A / V system does not issue from the start, the machine hosts a OneKey Theater audiovisual optimizer. SlideNav an inductive touch above the keyboard promises to facilitate navigation between programs and shortcuts. Of course, it'll be a little tough to 6 pounds and measuring 15.2 x 10 x 1.5 inches. And do not expect to run marathons -. The spokesman said that this machine should last 4½ hours with battery

IdeaPad U150 (starts at $ 585)

The U150 sassy barely fits in the size range of netbooks (measuring 0.5 inch thick and weighs only 2.9 pounds), but hiding under the textured red or black cover is an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, a 11.6-inch ( 1366- by-768) and up to a 320GB hard drive or 64GB solid-state drive. The protection of this little guy from bumps and scratches is called the Active Protection System. The spokesman said that the laptop will last up to 7 hours with the six-cell battery.

IdeaPad U550 (starts at $ 650)

When the Y550 screams with all the multimedia bells and whistles, think of the IdeaPad U550 as "strictly professional" consumption machine. It has a 15.6-inch screen (1366 x 768), Intel Core 2 Duo processor, and an integrated GPU (you can opt for a 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 GPU). It also offers switchable graphics - toggle the discrete GPU with a push of a button. It measures 14.8 by 9.9 by 1.16 inches and weighs 5.3 pounds. Oh, and for those who want a machine that will literally be easier on the eyes, the U550 touts an ambient light sensor to adjust the screen for you.

Obviously, this is just a quick look on the machines. We will be sure to give you a more complete picture of each of these laptops as review units appear in the office.

Best Lenovo ThinkPad Twist (3347-4HU)

By Gadget News | At 2:11 PM | Label : | 0 Comments
Best Lenovo ThinkPad Twist (3347-4HU) |
Lenovo ThinkPad Twist (3347-4HU) Review
best price for Lenovo ThinkPad Twist (3347-4HU) from various races online sources that gives the best price offer is amazon.With 799.99 a price, you can take the advanced ultrabook house that has all the features similar to laptops and tablets.Special just $ price? because you can save $ 100.00 (11%) of the normal price of about $ 899.99
.Here I will provide some comments on ThinkPad Twist (3347-4HU), both in terms of functionality, specifications, performance, and its advantages and disadvantages
Twist turns into a notebookwhen you type, a tablet when you're traveling, and a stand when you want to share presentations

Features and performance

The Lenovo ThinkPad Twist 3347-4HU offers performance up to mid-range laptops, although this may be problematic, since the tag price of $ 900 (at time of review) is edging towards the cost of high-performance machines.

Equipped with a dual-core processor third generation Intel Core i5-3317U 1.7GHz, 4GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4000 and the ThinkPad can handle easily basic word processing and calculation functions. The notebook is also able to handle multiple tasks quite well, although I have noted a slight delay when running multiple programs (especially video streams) simultaneously.

Users seeking to perform duties in more intensive material such as games will notice the lack of performance of the machine. Although the integrated graphics can handle Photoshop, HD video editing basis or play games with the requirements of modest system performance levels .are a pittance compared to what dedicated Nvidia or AMD graphics card can offer

PROS and CONS Lenovo ThinkPad Twist (3347-4HU)

PRO
Convertible tablet form factor. More storage than convertibles SSD only. Both trackpoint and touchpad. Good keyboard. optional WWAN.
CONS
Bulky. Only five points of contact. Mini HDMI instead of its size por HDMI

HP Folio 13 UltraBook revealed

By Gadget News | At 2:27 AM | Label : , , , , | 0 Comments
Gadget News | Apps Gadgets. HP has come along with what looks to be a very competitive entry into the expanding Ultrabook market with its stylish, light-weight HP Folio 13.

The new formfactor of the Ultrabook tries to blend portability with power and this looks as though it's managed both along with a stylish look; however HP has also managed a very competitive price point as this will be selling for $900.
But what do you get for your hard-earned? Well the Folio 13 will get a Core i5-2467M, along with dual-core i7 versions incoming, a 128GB SSD, and 4GB of DDR3 memory for starters. Connectivity is taken care of by Ethernet, HDMI, USB 2.0 and 3.0, a memory card reader and an all-in-one mic/headphone port.
There's also a fancy backlit keyboard along with a 1366×768 resolution screen; a possible 9 hours of battery life should keep you going when on your travels. If size matters, and in the Ultrabook category it clearly does, then the HP weighs in at 1.5kg and is 18mm thick, not the slimmest but certainly couldn't be described as bulky.
So how does it compare to its rivals in the new Ultrabook catagory? Well pretty well really, and could be described as an excellent all-rounder. It's main rivals being the MacBook Air,Lenovo IdeaPad U300s, Asus Zenbooks and of course the Toshiba Portégé Z830. Have a click through and see what you think.
The HP Folio 13 will be available in the US from 7 December and we'll be waiting for this in the UK with some interest.

Lenovo U300s review

By Gadget News | At 2:23 AM | Label : , | 0 Comments
Gadget News | Apps Gadgets. Let's be honest, Lenovo isn't known for consumer laptops, nor is it really known for creating objects of desire. That is not to say that it's laptops aren't brilliant, because they often are. The problem is, unless you work for a business that gives you one for work, you'll probably never consider buying one.

For some time now, Lenovo has been keen to change that. It is using its expertise in business machines to woo a whole new set of customers. Arguably spearheading this is the new Ultrabook, the U300s, which is the reason we're gathered here today. But can the company persuade people to ditch their Dell and Toshiba machines for a shiny Lenovo?
This review is based on an i3 pre-production model that we've spent a little time with, ahead of production spec machines being available. As such, we're not rating performance here, but how we find the machine as something you might want to carry around with you. We'll review the U300s, in full, when we have a little more time with the unit.
