once iOS 10 launches, iPhone owners can register in a national donor registry by clicking a button in the Application of Health. This feature will be available on all US iPhones updated with the latest software.

Speaking with Associated Press Tim Cook said he hoped that this new feature could put an end to the shortage of donors that resulted in the death of thousands of Americans during the last decade. The issue hits particularly close to home for cooking because he had to watch Steve Jobs endure what he called an "atrocious" waiting for a liver transplant in 09, two years before his death.

The latest figures from the National Kidney Foundation show that more than 121,000 people are currently waiting for a transplant rescue body, with a large majority of people in need of kidney transplants. Despite the fact that over 0 million Americans are registered as organ donors, an average of 22 people die each day waiting for an organ donation.

Although iOS 10 has no release date, the public beta is scheduled to deploy this month, while the final software will be released in September.
