See how badly your city’s cell service sucks

Cell Service Reviews

whining on cellular service, after baseball, probably favorite pasttime America. But you must not use anecdotes to prove how many dropped calls you get, or the rarity of two LTE bars is in your city. RootMetrics released its annual ranking of cellular service in metropolitan areas, and boy oh boy, does Denver suck.

RootMetrics is a company that performs tests on cellular networks across the country, providing a point of more objective data that the optimists network coverage maps. Reliability, speed, call and text are all on average to produce a score of 100, which are used to rank the best and worst cities.

Surprisingly, size is no guarantee of quality. Number one on the list is Lansing, MI, population 313,000. In fact, only two cities are in the top 10: Atlanta is the third, and Chicago comes in fifth. New York 59, Los Angeles is 99th, 66th and Washington. Not many cities that are intended to be the world's headlights.

What about the worst cities in North America? Well, things are a little less surprising here. I never thought Scranton, Pennsylvania is known for something other than The Office , but now has the dubious distinction of being third from bottom cellular service. Which is worse than Scranton, I hear you ask? Omaha and Hudson Valley, making it a kind of sense.

As far as I know, there is no real correlation between the east coast, the west coast, and bad cell service. Large cities tend to finish somewhere in the middle of the rankings, while small towns that have not seen a lot of growth are unsurprisingly on the bottom of the list of infrastructure investments.
