Lenovo ThinkPad X301 now available with spinning hard disk 1.8 inches

Lenovo ThinkPad X301 now available with spinning hard disk 1.8 inches |

Lenovo
s flagship ThinkPad X301 laptop can now be found in some configurations with a 1.8-inch magnetic hard disk rather than solid state drives fast and expensive, once included exclusively.

Unfortunately, the new drives are not available on Lenovo.com as part of a build-it-yourself configuration, again. Instead, you are limited to one of two pre-built configurations available from resellers:

* Model 2776-H1U: SU9400 1.4GHz CPU, 2GB DDR3 , Webcam, 120GB 5400rpm, DVDRW, Intel 5100 WiFi, expandable WWAN, 2GB Turbo Memory, Bluetooth, fingerprint reader, 6-cell battery, Vista Business 32 - 1700-1800 street price ~ $
* model 2776-32U: SU9600 1.6GHz CPU, 2GB DDR3, Webcam, 250GB 5400rpm, DVDRW, Intel 5100 WiFi, expandable WWAN, Bluetooth, fingerprint reader, 6-cell battery, XP Professional - the street price - ~ $ 1700

Considering that you can not get the ThinkPad X301 in the $ 1600 range, without DVDRW and other goodies on Lenovo.com with coupons, it's actually not a bad deal. The magnetic hard disk allows you to clearly save a chunk of change here. In fact, if you look for the almost identical model 2776-33U, which adds a 64GB SSD on 2776-32U listed above, it adds an average $ 200-300 in the price tag. You should always make the comparison price in depth to find the model that best fits your needs, but the potential is there to save money.

More background
lenovo_thinkpad_t400s_upgrade_ssd-toshiba When the ThinkPad X300 launched, it has been criticized for its high price, which was largely driven by the SSD so expensive. The drive itself cost over $ 700, which is a very large part of the cost of any laptop, as you could get a pretty good machine equipped so far. Asked about offering a 1.8-inch HDD to reduce the starting cost down, Lenovo said it had investigated this route, but that the performance of these drives was just not up to par for such a high Machine range. Indeed, the storage unit of a system is one of the biggest bottlenecks in modern computer.

Since the ThinkPad X300 launched, SSD prices have dropped significantly bringing the X301 in the sub-range in price from $ 2,000. However, hard drive technology has also advanced, not only are 1.8 inch drives faster, but they have a greater capacity also. Hopefully Lenovo will begin offering the 1.8-inch HDD for the X301 on Lenovo.com, so we can really see what kind of value they can hunt ThinkPad lighthouse.

Dell Inspiron 11z Review

By Gadget News | At 8:30 PM | Label : | 0 Comments
Dell Inspiron 11z Review |
The Inspiron 11z is Dell's first ultraportable laptop to mix the netbook portability with full capacity of laptop. It weighs 3.05 lbs. and about one inch thin, it's easy to carry, but has the ability to deliver smooth HD video playback and performance smoothly with your applications. The biggest differences between a netbook and Inspiron 11z are the new inside. Most netbooks come with Intel Atom processor and GMA 950 graphics while the Inspiron 11z is based on the new Intel CULV processor family combined with more memory and graphics to deliver a better performance improved.

Many consumers wonder what Dell had in store after Dell ended the Inspiron Mini 12 earlier this year ... the Inspiron 11z is the answer. Consumers have asked for a netbook-like device with a netbook price that is capable of handling traditional mobile activities (such as full HD video and multitasking). The Inspiron 11z is just that, with a starting price of only $ 399 in the US from www.dell.com and from August 25 will be available in Carphone Warehouse in the UK and Phone House in France.

Although the Inspiron Mini netbook series are designed as "companion PC" (miniature laptops that are easy to slip into a purse or briefcase but can not replace a full laptop) l Inspiron 11z has the power of a traditional budget laptop a small, easy to carry design. Netbooks offer slower and some types of HD video playback performance will stutter due to the limitations of the Intel Atom processor and Intel GMA 950. The Inspiron 11z does not suffer from these limitations with a new Intel CULV and Intel GS45 Integrated Graphics Processor.

One potential problem we noticed with the Inspiron 11z pre-production is that users will struggle to make their own updates. Dell has sacrificed the expansion of typical RAM and hard drive expansion doors on the bottom of the notebook to make the Inspiron 11z (cost and as low) as thin as possible. This means you must remove the entire bottom of the laptop if you want to make your own updates

Left side view of Inspiron 11z: .. Ethernet, HDMI and USB

some more facts about the Inspiron 11z - as I mentioned, today you can buy a pre-configured system for $ 399, including the following specifications:

* Intel Celeron 723 (1.2GHz / 800MHz FSB / 1MB cache)
* 2 GB DDR2 memory
* 250GB (5400 rpm) hard drive
* Built in Wi-Fi, 1.3MP Webcam
* 11.6 inch HD (1366x768) screen (WLED)
* battery 28WHr with about 3 hours of battery life
* Windows Vista Home Premium with free upgrade kit to Windows 7
* Dimensions
o Height: 0.92 "(235mm) front / 1.02" (258mm) back (with 3 cell battery)
o Depth: 8.43 "(214mm)
o Width: 11.5 "(292mm)

when lauch the Inspiron 11z will be available in black obsidian, but more colors are likely to become later this year.

There will be more configuration options on the road. The Inspiron 11z is only the second member of the "family Z" Dell laptops with thin and light with a large space of battery life -. So stay tuned, we'll have more coverage laptops Z-series in the future

Gateway LT3103u Review

By Gadget News | At 5:29 PM | Label : | 0 Comments
Gateway LT3103u Review |

Not only computer makers expanding the definition of netbooks by offering low-cost highly portable systems increasingly larger screens, but now they are experimenting with different processors, too. Like many netbooks, the Gateway LT3103u has a 11.6-inch screen, but he abandoned the traditional Intel Atom processor in favor of AMD single-core chip, which promises performance stronger. but it is uncomfortable territory. to get slightly better performance figures, you sacrifice the lives of significant battery
Design

The Gateway LT3103u borrows its design NV series of high society. the lid is a glossy black, highlighted by a silver engraved Gateway logo tab. Likewise, the bezel surrounding the screen is glossy black. It's a sleek look, but the lid take fingerprints easily. Inside, the chassis and the keyboard is matte black, and palm rests are dimpled like a golf ball, which is comfortable and offers a new and exciting sensory experience.

At 11.3 x 8.6 inches, the LT3013u uses the same amount of office space as the Lenovo IdeaPad S12 and Acer Aspire One 751h, and as these two systems, its six-cell battery protrude from the back. The LT3103u maintains a uniform thickness of 1 inch from front to back, much like the 751h. Weighing 3.2 pounds, the LT3103u is 3.2 ounces heavier than the ASUS Eee PC 1101HA, but still easily and unobtrusively fit in a messenger bag.

Keyboard and Touchpad
Like the Acer Aspire 751h, the LT3103u a provision not quite Island style; we can not help wondering if the two merged companies were traded on market research data. The flat keys have a slightly granular surface, and offer a good amount of comments. We had some trouble with the LT3103u typing this review.

Although the touchpad is a smallish 2.5 x 1.5 inches (especially compared to the Toshiba mini NB205) there is little friction, and is gesture-enabled, allowing us to flick, pinch and zoom to edit web pages and images. The pad back and the single mouse button below are framed by a chrome accent, which is a touch of class.
Display and Audio

The 11.6-inch, 1366 x 768 glossy LED-backlit display on the LT3103u is neither better nor worse than the systems of 11 inches competitors. Streaming video from Hulu and played off the hard drive were bright and crisp; Horizontal viewing angles are large enough for two people to sit on each side of the system and see the screen comfortably.

The stereo speakers on the LT3103u provide a strong enough sound for a netbook. While bass was lacking and the higher tones are somewhat tinny, voices midrange on Weezer "Island in the Sun" came with good. Since the speakers are mounted on the underside of the front lip of the system, we found that the audio is distorted and became deaf when we had the netbook on our knees; placing the system on a hard surface resulted in an improved listening experience.
Ports and Webcam

typical for a system of this size, the LT3103u has three USB ports, VGA, Ethernet, headphone and microphone and a 5-in-1 memory card slot.

a resolution of 0.3 megapixels may seem a bit low for a webcam, but there is more than enough on the LT3103u. A caller on Skype said that the video was clear to us, and the colors were well represented. Although there is some motion blur, there was nothing out of the ordinary. The microphone on the netbook picked our own voice, too.

Asus G51VX-RX05 Gaming Notebook Review

Asus G51VX-RX05 Gaming Notebook Review |
Recently, we have seen the meteoric rise of netbooks in the mobile space. Their ultra portability in collaboration with the global economic climate seems to have led consumers to think twice about spending large sums of money on mobile devices. This is especially true when netbooks offer the same basic services (word processing, Internet surfing, e-mail) to a significantly smaller investment than most other models. But with netbooks, problems surface when users want to do more than basic tasks. While no one can dispute their ease of use, size, and price point, netbooks do not have the processing power to play the latest games or manage large multimedia workloads which are essential to meet the demands of gamers and enthusiasts.

With their Eee PC line of products, Asus has been at the forefront of the revolution in netbooks. However, they also got a wide range of laptops in full screen mode, which was recently expanded with a new game machine designed for mainstream consumers, combining strong graphics performance and surprising affordability. The G51VX-RX05 is a member of the Asus Republic of Gamers line targeted at the performance enthusiast market and has a Core 2 Duo processor, 4GB of DDR2 memory, a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M, a "screen 15 6 LCD, a roomy 320GB hard drive, and Windows Vista 64 bit operating system. Although these specifications are attractive, the most attractive feature may list is the competitive asking price, which is currently about $ 1,049. With the new school year just around the corner, we know consumers are in the market for notebooks that offer the best return for their money, so let's take a look more closely at what has to G51VX to offer. CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 2.0GHz
Memory: 4GB DDR2 800MHz (2x2GB)
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M 1GB GDDR3
Storage: 320GB 7200RPM
optical: DVD SuperMulti
system OS: Windows Vista Home Premium x64
Wireless: Intel 802.11 A / G / N
Webcam: 1.3 megapixel
Internet wired: 10/100 Ethernet, 56K fax / modem
Ports 4 USB, 1 FireWire, HDMI, VGA, ExpressCard, eSATA, 8-in-1
player
Weight: 7.3 lbs with battery
Dimensions: 14.6 "x 10.3" x 1, 6 "(WxDxH)
warranty: 1 year parts / labor
Price: $ 1049

Stepping in 14.6" x 10.3 "and weighing 7.3 pounds, the G51VX is not ideal for daily travel. More portable than high-end laptops desktop replacement, we would still consider a full size laptop better fit for just occasional trips rather than business travelers on the go.

In fact, we think it would be perfect for a college dorm room, where portability is less important and a full set of features and functionality previously. That said, the G51VX was designed for maximum gaming performance at an affordable price. It is also one of the first machines we tested with the new GeForce GTX 260M mobile GPU from NVIDIA under its hood. So let's take a look more closely at this new hot rod built Asus; then we will take it for a ride around the test track.
