Super Water Resistant Surfaces May Be Coming As Soon As Next Year, Comes As A Spray On

Smartphones can be fragile devices, and unless you opt for those bulky, rugged devices, you may want to look at this jaw dropping patent-pending NeverWet anti-water coating.

The folks at Ross Nanotechnologies created a silicon-based superhydrophobic spray-on that has a high contact surface, meaning that water has almost no surfaces to cling to, making water or liquids literally slip off materials that are spray on with NeverWet.

Materials are sprayed with NeverWet also resists corrosion, ice, bacteria and even have self-cleaning.  The company even says that the spray on won’t fade when hit with high-pressured water and claims in their website that they tested material that were submerged in seawater for over a year and came out completely dry.

In a demonstration, NeverWet is sprayed on an iPhone 3GS and placed in a bowl of water. Generally the phone won’t last long once it hits water, but here you have an iPhone 3GS that is lasted thirty minutes and remains functional.

Now Ross Nanotechnologies is hoping to launch its product by next year, where it will be used in shoes, electrical materials, hospitals, bathroom product and the list goes on.
